During beginning of 2007, a local Church based in the State of Kerala, South India approached Marafie Foundation, to help to open Dialysis Centres. The Mar Thoma Church is one of the prominent Churches in the State catering for its believers and at the same time actively involved in the Community development and improving the Community Health. It has got a Medical Mission Board, managing a dozen hospitals and clinics in the State of Kerala.

During the period, found out that the number of Kidney patients were increasing and there was not enough medical support or Dialysis facilities.   It means that once a person faces Kidney failure, either go for transplant or die with sickness.  There were a couple of Dialysis Centres in the State but were very expensive, which was unbearable for common people. 

Thus, the cooperation with Mar Thoma Medical Mission, which started in 2007 is still going on very effectively. There are five hospitals under the Mar Thoma Medical Mission is giving dialysis to kidney patients. Now 18 dialysis units are in service, giving daily 30 dialysis per day. So far, over 50,000 dialysis sessions have been arranged across all the hospitals.

The Church presented a proposal to Marafie Foundation that if Foundation donate the Dialysis Units, the Hospital under the Church management will serve the Dialysis Free of cost or at very nominal charge.  Based on the above proposal the Foundation donated 3 Dialysis Units during 2008 September and started its operation at St. Thomas Mission Hospital. The dialysis being served free of cost for all deserving kidney patients and for others at a very affordable cost of US$:10/- towards the cost of the consumables. A delegation from the Marafie foundation visited the Hospital and found the Dialysis Centre functioning effectively.

St. Thomas Hospital was established in 1948 and having 350 beds. It is a multi-speciality teaching hospital with 50 Doctors, 20 Departments and catering to the needs of above 400 patients daily. During this period, the need for more units were raised by the Hospital and accordingly in 2013,15 & 18, more units added and   presently 10 Units in service, with average  400  Dialysis per month.

Surgery Table

The Hospital Management requested Marafie Foundation to support with a new Surgery table to meet the growing number of the surgeries carried out in the hospital. Accordingly, Foundation donated a full-fledged Surgery Table beginning 2022.

The hospital was established in 1946.  It is well equipped hospital with Dialysis Centre, Mobile Clinic, Blood Bank, Nursing School apart from the other hospital departments.  The hospital meets the medical requirements of the people in the area as well as connected regions.

The Fellowship hospital management also sent a request for Dialysis units through the Mar Thoma Church.  Accordingly, during Sept. 2016, two units were donated to the Hospital. The hospital serve the dialysis fully free of charge with the financial support of the well-wishers and nearby churches.

Mar Thoma Mission Hospital Chungathara was founded in 1966. It is situated in Malapuram district one of the most backward regions of Kerela adjacent to the western Ghats, this hospital made its humble beginning as a six bedded hospital, providing primary health care to the local population. The local people around the hospital are working class or poor.  Most of the services rendered to the patients are free of cost or just to meet the expenses. So, the refurbishing was delayed long time due to the fund’s shortage.  During Dec.2014, the Hospital Management requested Marafie Foundation for help and accordingly a unit Haematology Analyser and a Computerized Radiography & Imager were donated. 

As number of kidney patients are increasing this area also, the Hospital Management already started a Dialysis Centre couple years ago.

The Centre was established in 1963 in order to cater for the social and educational uplifting of local people, apart from their spiritual needs.  The centre got 4 Major blocks: housing Old Age people, Hospice, Cancer Palliative and Educational Development. There are above 200 inmates living in the Campus and their complete expenses are met by the Centre.  The Old Age Home mainly for the elderly people who are unable to carry out even their primary needs by themselves and gave up by their families.  In Hospice Centre is the Asylum of very sick people who need medical attention and left alone in the life.  The Cancer Centre working in partnership with TATA Memorial Institute, Mumbai.

In the Centre itself having many Kidney patients and they were getting Dialysis from the Hospitals far away.  It was very difficult to transport bed ridden patients for Dialysis on Ambulance and requested Marafie Foundation to help to open a Dialysis Centre within the Campus.  Accordingly, two dialysis units were donated by the Marafie foundation in October 2023. Presently, the Kidney Patients from the Campus as well as locals staying nearby areas are getting FREE dialysis without considering their caste or creed.
